What the Face Tracking Lens does
The face tracking lens turns DelanCam1 into a camera that follows your face instead of three IR points. Fit it and OpenTrack reads your head movement on its own. No clip on your headphones, no emitter to charge, nothing extra to wear.
Who this lens is for
Every DelanCam1 bought on its own already comes with this lens in the box, so most people never need to order it. Two groups do.
- Owners of a PRO set. Delanclip Fusion Pro and Gamer Pro are built around IR tracking, so the face tracking lens is not part of those bundles. This is how you add face tracking to a camera that came in a PRO box.
- Anyone replacing a lens that was lost or damaged. It is a small part and it is easy to misplace once you start swapping between the two modes.
What to expect from face tracking
Face tracking works from the picture of your face, so the light in your room affects it and it is less precise than IR. Three point IR tracking does not have that problem. It works in complete darkness and in daylight, and glasses or a beard make no difference to it.
That is why we still recommend IR tracking for long simulator sessions and for anything where a small error matters. Face tracking is the mode to reach for when you want to play without wearing anything at all. More on how the technology works: Face tracking explained.
Fitting the lens
Unscrew the lens that is on the camera, screw this one in, adjust the focus. It takes about a minute and needs no tools. The video above shows the whole swap. After that, choose the face tracking module in OpenTrack and calibrate. Full instructions are in the DelanCam1 setup manual.
